In April 2011 Audio AG started to establish a help fund for the victims of the disaster in Japan. For a period of three months some of Audio AG customers donated 1% of their RME turnover to the fund raising project. Audio AG doubled the sum and round it up to 40.00o Euro.
The donated money was transferred to the Help e. V. organization. Help's policy is "help to self-help". They are always cooperating with local partner organizations, because locals know their people, their culture and therefore the needs of the people better than any foreign expert. Partner for Japan project is JEN.
The money for Audio AG's supported project is for reconstruction of the local business structures in the commercial Avenues in Ayukawa, Ishinomaki City. Business operators will be provided with basics like temporary buildings, necessary equipment and most basic store fixtures to allow them to proceed to smoothly re-start or start the business. This project is intended to give significant impact to the local economy of Ayukawa area, and is expected to lead to improvement in employment and living environment.

RME releases a free multi-channel wave file batch processor software that allows to process files generated by the Direct USB Recording (DURec) of the Fireface UFX.
Most digital audio workstations can import multi-channel wav files generated by the UFX directly into their projects. The need for the special RME tool arises from the fact that standard wave files can not be bigger than 2 GB to be fully compatible. With higher track counts and longer recording times DURec therefore uses multiple consecutive files. Importing these into typical DAWs requires the user to adjust and align the content of each file to the previous one.
The RME tool adds an easy way to combine and split multichannel interleaved files from the UFX into single or dual channel files. The content of consecutive files is automatically combined into a single file. In the rare case that these again exceed the 2 GB limit the tool automatically writes RF64 files. The Mac version can also write CAF (Core Audio Format) files.
RME's Multichannel WAV File Batch Processor' can also perform multiple conversions of different recordings. Once all the single tasks are set up the software will process them one after the other automatically, hence 'batch processor'. The software is available for Windows and Mac OS X and can be downloaded and freely used from the RME website.
The award-winning Fireface UFX has been updated with a spectacular feature: an integrated digital recorder for all inputs and outputs directly to USB memory devices via the front USB port. The UFX records on USB thumb drives or hard drives with up to 2 TB capacity. The recording functionality is provided by the internal DSP, and is therefore independent from a connected Windows or Mac computer.
The new addition converts the Fireface UFX not only into a stand-alone field recorder, but also into a powerful multichannel live player for previous recordings, e. g. for virtual sound checks. Live concerts, band rehearsals or spontaneous jam sessions can be directly recorded and played back from the medium - even completely stand-alone without computer or software. All 60 input and output channels can be individually chosen for recording and playback.
The UFX USB recorder can be operated directly at the unit via the high resolution display. Additionally the Recorder is found in the TotalMix FX software user interface on both Mac and Windows PC.
The new driver and firmware with Direct USB Recording is available on the RME website. The update also adds mono (single) channel hardware outputs to the TotalMix mixer view and the channel menu of the unit, real-time operation view in the Compressor graphics, Cue buttons to quickly listen to any outputs, several new MIDI remote functions and options, and lots of other improvements.
More about the Fireface UFX ...
The latest drivers for Windows and Mac PC, now available on RME's website for download, include several new features and even performance improvements. The updated drivers support all current interfaces, including the Fireface series, Multiface/Digiface, Babyface, and the complete line of HDSP cards, both PCI and PCI Express.
All new Windows drivers feature multi-client playback mixing. Different programs, WDM or ASIO, can now play back on the same audio channels. Changing from one audio software to another usually no longer requires to exit the other one.
Classic TotalMix on both Mac and Windows has been enhanced by 4 storable fader groups, plus a temporary one, several MIDI remote functions and options, and an Undo function, which reverts to the last state if a new mixer state (preset) has been loaded accidentally.
The new TotalMix FX, used by Babyface, Fireface UC and Fireface UFX, got a mono (single channel) output mode added to its default stereo mode and lots of other improvements.
The UFX has also been updated with DURec™, Direct to USB Recording.
Both Mac and Windows drivers also include significant performance improvements. Under Windows multi-unit usage on multi-core CPUs needs less resources and runs at lower latencies. WDM-compatibility and operation has been greatly improved, and even small changes like the new Settings dialogs of all units make working with the interfaces more easy, especially under Windows 7. The Mac USB driver has been reworked to gain robustness and more stable low latency operation in any application.
A quick round up of the RME product launches and announcements at Frankfurt Musikmesse 2011. It includes an interview and demo with Matthias Carstens (RME Head of Design) on the new RME Fireface UFX record function, the RME ADI-6432R BNC, the new range of BOB-16 rack-mount breakout boxes, the RME Remote Control for the ADI-8 QS and Fireface UFX.
It also covers the MIPA for the "best recording hardware" awarded to the RME Fireface UFX.
The Fireface UFX wins again. One of the most prestigious awards - the mipa Musikmesse International Press Award 2011 for the best recording hardware - goes to RME's flagship. The mipa is established as the "Grammy" of the Musical Instrument/Pro Audio industry. More than 100 magazines from all over the world voted for the best musical instruments and audio equipment of 2010/2011 in more than 40 categories.
The awards was presented to the winners at a special ceremony held during the Musikmesse/Prolight+Sound on Thursday, April 7th, 2011. All RME developers were present in the ceremony and proudly received the award.

More about the Fireface UFX ...
RME presents a new Remote Control for Fireface UFX and ADI-8 QS on the Musikmesse Frankfurt. The optional remote has a solid metal case with one big wheel dial and two push buttons. The functions of the ADI-8 QS stay unchanged (volume, store, recall). On the Fireface UFX the remote controls the most important monitoring functions.
Availability is expected September 2011.
The BOB-16 connects up to 16 inputs (BOB-16 I), 16 outputs (BOB-16 O) or 8+8 inputs+outputs with XLR Neutrik connectors to two D-sub 25-pin connectors. It works like two breakout cables D-Sub from/to XLR. The usual multicore breakout cables are replaced with a 19" rack mount unit, preventing cable chaos, errors and connection problems.
The BOB-16 boxes are the perfect addition to the M series, ADI-8 QS or OctaMic II.
All BOB-16 boxes provide the revolutionary Flip frame option. It allows to change rack brackets and handles from front to rear and thus to change XLR or D-sub from front to rear as well. This way a BOB will perfectly fit in every rack and working situation.
The Fireface 800 shows once more that it's still the reference, even above its own class. It won in the category 'best computer audio interface' against 9 competitors. The SOS award is a very prestigious acknowledgement as it is a user voted award. It was held in November/October 2010, and received an overwhelming number of votes. A big 'Thank you' to everyone who honoured us with their vote!
