Drum Recording – Home/Project Studio w/ Guli Briem
Recording Live Drums in a home Studio environment presents many challenges for a typical audio interface/home studio setup. The number of mic inputs, adequate audio headroom, setting a cue mix, and proximity to the host computer running your DAW all need to be addressed. Accommodating all of these challenges usually requires a lot of extra equipment, cabling, and cost. The presentation with Gulli Briem will demonstrate how RME’s native technology + TotalMix Remote can overcome these challenges with ease. By utilizing the Octamic XTC via MADI, users can add a powerful remote controlled 8-channel mic preamp with these additional benefits:
- TotalMix Remote can be used to run the audio interface remotely
A cue mix can be controlled by the drummer while sitting in the performance space - Dual phone outs on the Octamic XTC act as a personal monitor system complete with FX
- Only one MADI fiber optic cable has to be run between the DAW and the drumset
- RME’s “AutoSet” technology simplifies gain staging while drummer performs
